McDonald's serves fast food, but that does not necessarily mean that they can't whip up gourmet meals when they want to. In Japan, the food chain offers high-end burgers made using quality ingredients in new combinations and flavors. The Quarter Pounder Jewelry Series, which appeared on Japanese McDonald's menus in July, featured three new burgers: the Gold Ring with pineapple, bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, and barbecue sauce; the Black Diamond with black truffle sauce, mushrooms, onions, and cheese; and the Ruby Spark with chorizo, avocado, and pepper jack cheese.

Last month, the restaurant chain offered each of the new burgers priced at around $10 for a limited time. Although consumers had to pay more, the special creations were presented in luxury packaging that presented the Quarter Pounders as valuable jewels. While all of this might sound a little lavish, we may begin to wonder whether the high price tag was paying for high quality ingredients or fancy packaging. Either way, the menu is making us hungry.
