Forget everything you read/heard about the Detroit Institute of Arts not selling their prized art collection to pay the city's debt. City of Detroit emergency manager Kevin Orr has just hired Christie's Auction House to provide a professional appraisal of a portion of the museum's collection. This looks like a definitive towel-throw in our opinion, but the DIA still insists that the auction paddles are not rolling out quite yet. "We continue to believe there is no reason to value the collection as the Attorney General has made clear that the art is held in charitable trust and cannot be sold as part of a bankruptcy proceeding," read an official statement.

Things are so complicated in Detroit. Expect more confusing news about the status of the DIA in the near future.
