Digital Watercolors Made From Code Look Like the Real Deal

Just like real paint.

Kenichi Yoneda's watercolors may look like they come from a wet paintbrush, but they are actually made thousands of pixels. Using openFrameworks, Yoneda manipulates his images to look just like the age-old art form.

Besides his digital watercolors, Yoneda has also mimicked other mediums on the computer, from pencil sketches, to embroidery, to images that look like photos of underwater explosions. He replicates all of these mediums with such attention to detail that they look like as close as possible to the real deal. For Yoneda's most recent works, which he exhibited at the openFramework Developer Conference, he uses blending and layering in openGL to produce watercolors that seem to be dripping with paint.
