First there was Playboy's sign in Marfa, TX, and now in the latest installment of art meets advertising we have 12 feet tall fiberglass statue of Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice n London. The sculpture is a rendering of the character as played by Oscar-winner Colin Firth located in Serpentine Lake in London's Hyde Park.

The intention of the work is to depict Darcy emerging from the water all soaked, just like the woman stimulating scene in the 1995 television version of Jane Austen's novel. The scene put Firth on the map, changing him from an unknown to a sex symbol. It's often voted one of Britain's most memorable TV moments.

A sculptor behind the work, Toby Crowther, said the idea began around the lake but also evolved with the influence of other Austen romantic heroes. It also happens to coincide with the release of a new free digital television channel named Drama in the U.K. that will show programs like Pride and Prejudice.
