Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi was born on June 25, 1852. The famed architect and leader of Catalan Modernism is responsible for many iconic buildings (mostly in Barcelona), elements of which are represented in today's Google Doodle to celebrate the 161st anniversary of his birth. One of Gaudi's most recognizable buildings is the Casa Milá, depicted as the first "O" in the illustration. The other letters abstractly reference the neo-Gothic and Oriental influences found in his work, from the use of color to the shapes of windows and towers.

This Doodle doesn't exactly rank above the best of all time, but it's nice to see architects like Gaudi included among the Freddy Mercury's and Maurice Sendak's of the world.
