Yes, it's true. No matter how famous and respected an architect and their work may get, it doesn't stop another firm from copying them without shame. Zaha Hadid Architects designed the Wangjing SOHO as part of eleven ongoing projects in China. The three-curved volume design, scheduled to open in 2014, is not only being copied by unknown pirate architects in the eastern city of Chongqing, but the copied version appears to be going up faster. Titled “FauxHO” online, many believe that the building and its design comes from the stolen digital files of the original plans. The situation has inspired discussions of piracy, both on and offline, but for now it seems like a race for who will complete their building first.
