Vhils Hits Brazil

Reverse graffiti portraits.

Alexandre Farto, better known as Vhils, creates street art murals by chipping away at existing plaster and concrete. His is an extreme version of reverse graffiti—typically produced by removing layers of dust or grime—with a focus on human subjects. The Portuguese artist's most recent works are in Brazil. The intent is to bring attention to the inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro's favelas. If this seems similar to JR's work, you'd be correct in your thinking. The only difference is the method.
