When 32-year-old Troy Cooper walked out of the John Varvatos store in New York City 6 months ago, he probably thought he would get away with the $3,600 jacket he swapped with his own. He probably would've too, if not for some quality investigative techniques. Hitting licks in the 21st century isn't easy because if the police care enough about a crime, there's all sorts of ways they can identify the culprit. In this case, NYPD extracted DNA from a piece of chewed gum Cooper had stuck in the pocket of his old coat and charged him with grand larceny. Why anyone would chew gum and then throw it in their pocket is beyond us, but at least this guy won't be jacking more coats anytime soon. [Racked]
