Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a four-year, $100 million contract with Milwaukee back in September 2016. So he isn’t scheduled to become a free agent until the summer of 2021, which means Bucks fans should be resting easy right now knowing that they have one of the brightest young stars in the entire NBA on their roster for the foreseeable future.

But earlier this week, ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski shook up the NBA world when he made some provocative comments about the Greek Freak on The Russillo Show. While talking about Gordon Hayward’s decision to sign with the Celtics rather than re-signing with the Jazz, Woj suggested that Antetokounmpo could go the same route in a few years and sign with a contender right when he’s coming into the prime of his career.

Woj talked about how he believes the uncertainty in the Bucks front office right now could play a vital role in Antetokounmpo’s decision to either stay or leave once he becomes a free agent:

"Milwaukee's going to go through this with the Greek Freak. That day's coming, right? Where he's going to look and say, 'Where is this organization? What are they doing here?' Like, you don't think Giannis has been watching what went on there for the last several months? Of what they allowed to go on with the front office? He's watching it. And the clock has started. Everybody in the league is trying to figure out how they are going to get him out of there. That has started."

Bucks fans—who were no doubt hoping to enjoy the next four years without having to deal with these kinds of rumors surrounding Antetokounmpo—responded accordingly by downplaying Woj’s report, especially since it seemed to be rooted more in opinion than fact. They clearly don’t want to think about the idea of Antetokounmpo leaving Milwaukee one day:

Fortunately for Bucks fans, it doesn’t sound like Antetokounmpo has any plans to bolt when he becomes a free agent. Antetokounmpo hasn’t responded directly to the rumors that have been swirling this week, but on Thursday night, he took to Twitter to drop some well-timed Kendrick Lamar lyrics that seemed to be a response to all the craziness surrounding him:

And it appeared to make Bucks fans feel better about their chances of retaining Antetokounmpo in 2021:

But shouldn't they have already felt good about their chances of keeping Antetokounmpo long-term? He's the same guy who sent this tweet out in 2014:

Of course, there are so (so, so, sooooooo) many things that could happen over the course of the next four years that could change Antetokounmpo’s mind. But for now at least, he seems loyal to the franchise that first drafted him. And that should help Bucks fans relax and enjoy the next few years, rather than spending them worrying about what Antetokounmpo is going to do once his current contract runs out.
