Lonzo Ball's Grandfather Says LaVar Ball Got His Swagger From Him

If you ask the grandfather of Lonzo Ball, LaVar Ball got his swagger from him.

If you thought the Ball family was chatty before, you are definitely not prepared for what comes next. After LaVar Ball was proven right about his son eventually playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, he's only going to get bolder with his predictions and trash talk moving forward.

If you're looking for someone to blame for LaVar's endless boasting, maybe you need to look at an older member of the family tree. The grandfather of Lonzo Ball—referred to only as Grandpa Ball by TMZ—spoke briefly to the folks there about the younger members of the Ball clan, and he claims LaVar is just following in the footsteps of his father.

"Yes it does," he said when he was asked if all the talent and bravado comes from him. "I'll let [LaVar] handle all his affairs, and his sons, they can handle all their affairs. They're good, and God blessed them, so we all good to go."

Grandpa Ball—who claims he didn't let LaVar play sports competitively until 10th grade—sounded excited about what the future had in store for his grandsons, and he said LaVar took the family out to a lavish dinner in New York City after Lonzo was drafted. LaVar likes to talk about being a "big baller," so at least he's holding true to his word so far.

The eldest Ball wouldn't quite commit to some of the crazy predictions his kin have made, like a promise that the Lakers will make the playoffs in Lonzo's rookie year, but he did reveal one important nugget—LaVar's nickname. Grandpa Ball says he calls his son "Bravo," for reasons you might have already guessed.

"That's what I named him," he said. "I keep calling him Bravo because he was always independent."

Even if you don't always agree with LaVar's tactics, you'd have to admit he's definitely "independent," so Grandpa Ball is spot on with that one. And with his son playing in his hometown of Los Angeles, you're going to be getting a healthy dose of the Ball family on TV, on the radio, and everywhere else you can think of moving forward. Just be forewarned, LaVar—the Lakers are on national television constantly, and if Lonzo doesn't live up to the hype, the spotlight is going to be blinding.
