LeBron James and Kevin Durant recorded a hip-hop song together during the 2011 NBA lockout, and we definitely need to hear it.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant are enemies on the court right now, with both players submitting excellent performances through the first two games of the 2017 NBA Finals. But what if I told you they were also collaborators, and they'd hidden their biggest team-up from the world for over half of a decade?

Because that's apparently what happened, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes. The reporter spoke to people around the two NBA superstars—and the men in question themselves—and according to legend, they recorded a hip-hop track in secret during the 2011 NBA lockout. Haynes provides the details:

Both players are music junkies, and in between workouts they decided to kill some time by writing their own lyrics and heading to the booth, sources told ESPN. One person who has heard the song says he recalls Durant rapping the first verse, James hopping on for the second and then Durant finishing it off.

There's a lot to unpack here, and there are a million questions springing to mind in response to this news. Does either player have a rap moniker? Is Durant secretly producing rap records for up-and-coming artists? Did any NBA players, coaches, or broader figures get dissed on the track? Who are the anonymous sources that spilled the beans on this collaboration?

Reaction to the big reveal was mixed, to say the least.

Still better than Drake
Maybe I know someone who has it 👀👀👀👀 or not! 😕 https://t.co/fitzFLolBp

The dude who’ll join a superteam to finally beat me 🎶 https://t.co/at68aGQcnd
Bob Pettit and Bob Cousy never woulda collaborated on a doo wop track back in the day. https://t.co/R6evw8U0mp

If you're asking for our opinion, we needed this track yesterday. LeBron is a huge rap fan—as evidenced by him getting his hands on new Drake and Kendrick Lamarearly—and hearing him spit would give the public one more way to either idolize or criticize him. Ditto for Durant, who is broadly known as a quiet type, but apparently has at least a couple verses worth of bars to share with us.

If these NBA Finals continue on the tremendously boring path they've been on through the first two games, dropping this song will be the perfect way to spice things up. NBA fans may not get what they want on the court, so the least they could get is this ultra rare track from two of the league's best.
