In a heartbreaking story, former NBA big man Marcus Camby’s 9-year-old nephew passed away in Nov. 2016. The boy, who had Autism and required constant supervision, went missing after playing with other children in Camby’s yard. He was found in a pond, having passed away, on Camby’s property two days later.

Now, Camby’s brother, Marcus Kendall McGhee, has filed a lawsuit against Camby in U.S. District Court, according to the Houston Chronicle. The boy was the son of Camby’s sister.

The relatives visited Camby over Thanksgiving break last year. The suit alleges that Camby knew of the boy’s limitations and he failed to properly supervise him. Additionally, the suit asserts that Camby did not put adequate protective measures in place to keep the boy from the pond.

Camby released a statement after his nephew’s death.

“While the outcome was tragic, the outpouring of support has truly touched us all,” he said. “If God forbid, something like this happens to another family in our community, my family will be front and center with assistance.”

Camby, who retired in 2013, played for six teams during his NBA career, including the Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and Houston Rockets.
