St. Louis police have launched an investigation after a woman attending a St. Louis Cardinals game at Busch Stadium on Tuesday night reported getting hit by a stray bullet while she was sitting in her seat near the Cardinals’ dugout. Police believe the bullet was fired outside of the stadium.

According to USA Today Sports, the 34-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was watching the Cardinals play the Brewers when she felt some pain in her arm and saw a small cut near her elbow when she took off her jacket. She visited a first-aid station inside of the stadium and reached out to police to report what she thought had happened. They went to the area where the woman was sitting and found a bullet slug on the ground near her seat. At this point, it’s unclear where the bullet was fired from, but the woman is obviously lucky that an abrasion is all she walked away with following the incident.

The Cardinals released a statement Wednesday afternoon and promised to share more information about the shooting with the public in the near future.

"We are aware of an incident last night in which a fan reported being struck by a stray bullet that presumably originated from outside of the stadium," the statement said. "The fan was treated for an abrasion and a bruise on her arm at first aid and released. She was interviewed by police who are investigating the matter. There is nothing more important than the safety of our fans, and the Cardinals are grateful that no one was seriously injured. We will be sharing more information with the media as further details emerge."

The St. Louis Police Department also released a statement and said that the department "constantly stresses the importance of safety and responsible gun ownership."
