Even though he had only been retired for about four minutes on Tuesday, Tony Romo "comeback" rumors were already in full effect. We're not sure if that made a whole lot of sense, especially since Romo took and posted a picture of himself in a CBS suit jacket, but in a world where ex-players routinely return we suppose we can see the logic behind it:
On Wednesday another rumor about a retired star coming back cropped up, and not for the first time either, as former running back Marshawn Lynch was spotted visiting with the for now Oakland Raiders. Furthermore, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that a deal between Lynch and the Raiders "eventually will happen." Seems like something to monitor.
In addition to that, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Lynch told the team he plans to "un-retire":
Gossip about Lynch pairing up with his hometown team is nothing new, though he previously seemed to be pretty damn clear that he was retired. Lynch, who will turn 31 later this month, has 9,112 rushing yards and 74 rushing touchdowns in his nine-year NFL career. He's also a five-time Pro Bowler whose last appearance in that irrelevant game came in the 2014 season. His last NFL appearance, period, came in a postseason loss on Jan. 17, 2016.
Lynch is still technically a member of the Seattle Seahawks, but he was given permission by the team to talk to Oakland. Because of this, if he actually does return, the Seahawks would either have to release him, or the two sides would have to come to an agreement on a trade.
Last week, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said that he recently met with Lynch and talked about the idea of him returning to the NFL. "I know that he is somewhat entertaining the thought of it," Carroll stated. "I can't tell you how strong it is. You've got to talk to him."
The report that Lynch was at the facility on Wednesday initially came from ex-NFL punter and current Barstool Sports employee Pat McAfee.
