Marshawn Lynch is obviously a man of very few words. So when he announced that he was retiring from the NFL back in February 2016, he did so without using any. An emoji and a photo of a pair of cleats hanging on a wire were all he needed to get his point across:

Now that he’s coming out of retirement, though, it seems he has slightly more to say. Over the course of the last 24 hours, the Seahawks and Raiders worked out the logistics of a trade that will bring Lynch out of retirement and have him suiting up for Oakland next season. And in a tweet that he sent out on Wednesday afternoon making his return official, Lynch seemed to reveal why he decided to withdraw his retirement papers to come back and play for the Raiders. It sounds like it’s all about repping his hometown on the football field:

It’s no longer a surprise to hear that Lynch will be making a comeback this fall. There have been rumors swirling around about it for weeks now. But he was pretty adamant about the fact that he was not going to play football ever again during interviews last year. So what changed?

If we know anything, it’s that we’ll probably never get a straight answer out of Lynch. But the tweet he sent out today, much like the tweet he sent out when he retired (er, "retired"?), should explain it all.
