Giants Players Make Waves by Partying in Miami and Hanging Out on Boat Week Before Playoff Game

Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, and other Giants players are criticized for partying in Miami and hanging out on a boat the week before a playoff game.

NY Giants players hang out on a boat.

Remember when Tony Romo spent part of a bye week back in January 2008 vacationing with his then-girlfriend Jessica Simpson in Mexico instead of burying his head in a playbook and preparing for a playoff game? Ah, yes. Who could forgot? The Cowboys went on to lose to the Giants 21-17 in the divisional round of the postseason the next week—and Romo never heard the end of it. He’s still trying to overcome his decision to spend time with Simpson during that bye week, even though he’s long since broken up with her and moved on with his life.

The Giants don’t have a bye week this postseason, so none of their players are going to go away on extended vacations in the days leading up to their most important game of the season against the Packers. But New York head coach Ben McAdoo did give his players off on Monday, and several of them—including wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, Sterling Shepard, and Roger Lewis—used their 24 hours of freedom to…fly to Miami?!

That’s right. Just hours after beating the Redskins in Washington, D.C. on Sunday afternoon, those four players made their way down to Miami to break in the new year by partying alongside Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Jamie Foxx, Khloe Kardashian, and Johnny Manziel (welp) at LIV. They were featured in a bunch of Snapchat videos like this one during their time at the club:

And on Monday, Cruz posted a photo of the four players hanging out on a boat alongside Trey Songz and several other guys and girls on Instagram. He has since deleted that photo, buuuut, of course, it hasn’t disappeared from the internet entirely and is currently circulating on social media:

A video of Songz singing the Giants players praises is going around, too, and it includes one of the men on the boat talking about how he "can’t take Adderall," which is noteworthy when you consider that NFL players using Adderall has been something that's been in the news a lot lately.

As you might expect, people are having a field day with the photo and questioning why the Giants are celebrating in Miami instead of preparing for Green Bay:

In the grand scheme of things, this probably isn’t that big of a deal. NFL players partying during their downtime shouldn't come as a shock. But if we learned anything from the whole Romo, er, "scandal," it’s that this will be become a big deal, especially since it involves a team playing in the biggest media market in the country.

McAdoo has already downplayed the players’ decision to fly to the 305:

But if the Giants don’t take care of business this weekend against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, you can expect the New York Post and New York Daily News to go to town with all of this.
