Ronda Rousey is still trying to come to terms with her embarrassing UFC 207 loss to Amanda Nunes. Earlier this week, she posted this J.K. Rowling quote on Instagram:
And on Tuesday, she was photographed for the first time since taking the second L of her UFC career when she emerged from her home in Venice Beach, California after it was vandalized with graffiti:
We seriously doubt that advice from Floyd Mayweather is going to make things any better for her at this time—especially when you consider the history that exists between Rousey and Mayweather—but that didn’t stop him from sharing it with her anyway when Fight Hype caught up with Mayweather late Tuesday and asked him about Rousey.
Mayweather actually started things off by talking about the time when people suggested Rousey could beat him in a fight while simultaneously addressing some of the domestic violence allegations that have surrounded him in the past:
I think Ronda Rousey, you know, even though in the past they tried to make me compete against a female because of certain obstacles and certain things I been through in my life, you know, as far as domestic violence, I’m never one to shy away from anything. All I got to say is really about my life and things that I been through. Only God can judge me. We never see any marks or bruises. No pictures. No photos. So before I can be, before they can say that Floyd is guilty, show me photos. That’s all I want to see. Just show me photos. Now, am I guilty of restraining someone? Yes. And I’m not perfect. Never claim to be. God only made one thing perfect—that’s my boxing record.
But once he was done doing that, he spoke about Rousey’s importance to the UFC and told her that she can still "bounce back" after her loss to Nunes. He said he thinks she should have fought someone other than Nunes after taking such a long time off, but at the same time, he said he doesn’t think her career is necessarily over:
I want Ronda Rousey to hold your head up, stay focused, keep believing. A true champion can bounce back. You’ll be okay. Everything will be okay. I think that, with her losing, it had a lot to do with time off. She may should have competed against another female MMA fighter that wasn’t as active as the female that she faced. I think the female that she faced, I think that she was rugged and tough. We can’t take anything away from the girl that she faced. The girl that Ronda Rousey faced, she was a tough competitor. She was the better woman that night. But Ronda Rousey has a lot left. She has a lot left. I don’t want her to think this the end of the world. She’s hearing it from the best.
And Mayweather ended things off by saying this:
She’ll be okay. Ronda Rousey, hold your head up. You’re still a true champion in our eyes. You made women MMA huge, so stay focused, go back to the drawing board, and do what you got to do. 2017 is a whole new year. That was last year. That was 2016, if I’m not mistaken. Now it’s 2017, so you’re undefeated this year. Come back, champ.
We’re not sure if Mayweather meant the "you’re undefeated this year" part as a jab or not. But for the most part, he sounded at least somewhat genuine while speaking about Rousey. Wouldn’t it be something if this is ultimately what got Rousey back on her feet and helped her return to the Octagon?
