No DAPL

Today is the final Minnesota Vikings home game against the Chicago Bears and two protesters made sure that the event was memorable for more reasons than one. Two men scaled the rafters of the US Bank Stadium and placed a sign protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. The banner read “Divest #NoDAPL.”

All of this Kurt Fog-esque action must have been pretty strange to the fans and media in attendance. This protest comes on the heels of a press release that explains how US Bank has $175 million in credit lines to one of the companies responsible for the Dakota Access Pipeline. A proposed pipeline would carry crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe would be affected by the pipeline because their land is located nearby.

Karl Zimmerman, from South Minneapolis, has been identified as one of the protesters by the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He was wearing a Brett Favre jersey and on the phone with reporters while he was dangling from the ceiling. The entire moment has made a splash on social media and he has successfully brought attention to this issue.

Craziest of all, upon further inspection, the sign appears to be completely hand-painted which is insane considering the size we are talking about here. Zimmerman might have a career in street art if he could get something like this done. Even more impressive is the fact that they got into the stadium with all this gear and the banners. Then, they made their way up there relatively unnoticed.

That is one way to make a statement. Hopefully, they can get down safely.
