Lamar Jackson came into this season as a relative unknown at Louisville. The sophomore had a spectacular season and became the first player in school history to bring home the vaunted Heisman Trophy.

The Pompano Beach native was an offensive dynamo for the Cardinals as he racked up 51 total touchdowns and 4,928 total yards. He managed to win the award despite losses in his final two games.

Spectators could see that they were in for something special from the word go this season in Louisville. He threw for six touchdown passes in the season opener against Charlotte and never looked back.

He thanked Heisman voters in his acceptance speech and promised to share his award with all of his teammates back at school. The 19-year-old will be back in Louisville next season as it is too early for him to declare for the NFL Draft.

Buzz from analysts and scouts began to build from that first game but Jackson remained focused on the ultimate goal. “I tried not to pay attention to it, just tried to go out there and win games. If you fall off, anything can happen. Just got to keep grinding.”

That kind of humility and work ethic has characterized his rise to the top of the talent pool in college football. Florida State couldn’t stop him, neither could NC State and Boston College is probably still reeling from their moment against him.

There were some missteps along the way but, it was clear that Jackson was the real deal. With the Heisman out of the way, he gets to work on getting his team to the College Football Playoff next year.

Don’t be surprised if we see him there.
