Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez’s autopsy and toxicology report, released to multiple media outlets on Saturday, revealed some unsettling facts.

According to Miami's Sun Sentinel, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Department found cocaine and alcohol in the late pitcher's system during the time of his fatal boat crash last month. Fernandez had a blood-alcohol level of .147, which nearly doubles the .08 legal limit.

Fernandez, 24, was with two of his friends, Emilio Jesus Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25, at the time of the 32-foot boat's crash into the Government Cut north jetty near Miami around 2 a.m. on Sept. 25. Neither of Fernandez's friends survived the crash.

The story of Fernandez is an emotional one being that he was a Cuban refugee to Mexico when he was 15 years old after his fourth attempt to defect from his native country. During an interview with the MLB Network, he cited his grandmother as his inspiration. Fernandez and his grandmother, Olga, later had a heartfelt reunion at the Marlins Park for the first time in five years at the time he defected from Cuba.

Additionally heartbreaking, Jose's girlfriend Maria Arias is currently pregnant with the couple's first child. This is one of the final pics on Fernandez's IG account below.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred declined to comment on the results of Fernandez's autopsy prior to Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night, but in an interview with the Associated Press, Fernandez's attorney Ralph Fernandez said that using cocaine would have been out of character for the Marlins star.
