Did Aaron Rodgersreally call Brett Favre "grandpa" the first time they met back in 2005? In a new book called Gunslinger: The Remarkable, Improbable, Iconic Life of Brett Favre, author Jeff Pearlman wrote about the first meeting between Rodgers and Favre and claimed that the first three words Rodgers ever said to Favre were "Good morning, grandpa!" He also had former Packers backup quarterback Craig Nall confirm the story.

"Brett couldn’t believe that," Nall told Pearlman. "It was like, 'Grandpa? Who the hell are you?'"

But while speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers denied calling Favre "grandpa" during their first meeting and referred to Pearlman’s report as "highly sensationalized." He did admit that he probably called Favre "grandpa" at some point during their three years together, but he said that he doesn’t remember doing it during their initial meeting.

"I’ll just say this: The first time I met Brett was on the practice field, and I could barely get a sentence out of, 'Hello, my name is Aaron,'" he said. "Did I call him 'grandpa' at any time during the three years together? Probably. But it’s in the same joking way that my man Brett Hundley called me 'grandpa' three weeks ago on the field when we were doing a competitive drill. The story that was out there that I saw is completely 100 percent false, and I would dare anybody to test my memory on that. You guys know how my memory works. The end."

Rodgers didn’t speak to Pearlman for his book. Neither did Favre. So we’ll probably never know the truth here. But even if Rodgers did call Favre "grandpa," it’s not exactly the end of the world. And since everyone already assumes that Rodgers and Favre weren’t best buds during their time together in Green Bay—Rodgers was essentially brought in to replace Favre one day, which killed any chances of them becoming BFFs—it won’t do anything to change our perception of their relationship.
