The Patriots are now in an unfamiliar position having to fill a void of a starting quarterback. Pats fans were finally getting confident in their replacement QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who was labeled as the starter in the wake of Tom Brady's four-game suspension through Oct. 9 to begin their season.

During the Patriots game against the Dolphins on Sunday, Garoppolo put up impressive stats with 18 of 27 passing attempts, 234 yards and three touchdowns through the first two quarters. But their replacement quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down halfway through the second quarter and landed on his right shoulder from a tackle. He was taken out of the game immediately to be observed, and the team's doctors diagnosed him with a sprained AC joint in his throwing arm that lists him day to day, and could miss up to six weeks.

Even though the Patriots ultimately won the game 31-24, led by their third string QB Jacoby Brissett, the question remains who will be starting in place of Garoppolo. The NFL Today's Boomer Esiason thinks that the Patriots should really consider bringing on their longtime rival quarterback and retired Super Bowl 50 champion Peyton Manning.

During a discussion of the QB situation in New England, the panel was passing around a list of suggested replacements, and once Esiason got the list in hand, he stated, "I got a name for you that's not on here, that's not even on the list." Boomer continued his suggestion, "He's busy doing a lot of commercials—Peyton Manning."

Fellow panelist and former NFL player Tony Gonzalez asked him and chuckled, "Are you talking about a backup quarterback, though?" Boomer immediately responded, "Why not?" You can see the clip of the discussion below, where everyone thinks this doubles as a bad joke and a bad idea.

Ummm, why not?? Well, here's two reasons: one, he's old and retired for that reason alone; two, can you ever imagine Manning backing up Brady if he were to come out of retirement? No. Next!
