Usain Bolt Makes History Winning His Third Consecutive Gold Medal in the Men's 100m Final

Bolt wins the 100m final with a time of 9.81 seconds, his third straight gold medal in the event.

Usain Bolt lives up to his surname ever time he steps onto a track. He loves to brag about being the fastest man on the planet, whether cameras are focusing on him or not.  Whenever the Jamaican sprinter sets his feet into the block, it's not uncommon to witness this guy make history in track and field.

After Bolt won every round, he was the favorite coming into the Men's 100m Final on Sunday night. His biggest challenger in the final was USA's Justin Gatlin, who had won the bronze in the 2012 London Olympics versus Bolt, who won the gold in the event's final round. In the first round heat in Rio, Gatlin took first place in the 100m with a time of 10.04 seconds. In the 100m semifinal round, Gatlin beat his own first round time with 9.94 seconds. Bolt's recorded times in the first and semifinal round of his 100m heat were 10.07 seconds and 9.86 seconds, respectively.

So with two of the fastest men on the planet going toe-to-toe, Gatlin took an early lead out the gate. But Bolt went full turbo and edged him out in by 0.08 seconds with a time of 9.81 at the finish line, while Gatlin finished with 9.89. Canada's Andre De Grasse came in third place with a time of 9.91 seconds to win the bronze medal.

Usain Bolt is now the first athlete in Olympic history to win the 100m three times in a row.  Twitter lit up with reactions to seeing Bolt blur past his competition for his historic victory.
