Mike Tyson attended the US Open with his daughter Tuesday and demonstrated he has such a sweet tooth for ice cream that he'll do anything to get it, with little regard for consequence.
Employees who worked at the Ben and Jerry's concession stand reportedly saw the 50-year-old former heavyweight champion approach their freezer, according to the New York Post. Tyson then allegedly stuck his hand inside the "Half-Baked" ice cream freezer and helped himself before keeping it moving without any effort to pay.
The frozen treat was a mere $5.50, but it seems that his Brooklyn roughneck roots got the best of him. The Ben and Jerry's employees initially tried to stop him, but they were just too shook to slow him him.
One of the employees detailed their experience with Mike:
"I was like, 'Are you serious? Am I imagining this?' (Tyson) was like, 'I feel like having an ice cream' and he just took it," said one stunned worker, adding, "What are you going to do, fight him? He’s Mike Tyson. I said, 'Really, Mike? Really? You took my ice cream. He said, 'Yeah, I know, I stole your ice cream.'"
The Ben and Jerry's worker reported the situation to her supervisor, who responded, "Oh, it’s Mike Tyson, let it go." The other Ben and Jerry's worker that witnessed Tyson's alleged sticky fingers said:
"It shows his character. He doesn’t seem bothered by what he did. It doesn’t surprise me, though, given his background. Mike Tyson is not the most upstanding citizen."
Tyson's publicist, Joann Mignano, explained his side of the story. "There was a misunderstanding," she said. "Mike got the ice cream and was going to have the host pay for it, as he was running around with his family. He was being pulled in a lot of directions as his daughter, Milan, is a rising tennis star and huge fan of the sport. … His host, [USTA national manager] David Slade, got the money from Mike and has made sure the bill has been taken care of."
