Mamadou Sakho hasn't played football since April but he's certainly kept himself busy.

The Liverpool defender was forced to miss the end of last season and Euro 2016 after being handed a provisional 30-day ban by UEFA for violating an anti-doping rule – it turns out he didn't – and he's spent his summer in Africa doing work for his foundation, AMSAK.

After spending some time in Ivory Coast, Sakho flew to Senegal – the country of his parents' birth – to complete and open a school his charity has built for children with disabilities.

Mamadou Sakho is one of football's good guys.

While his performances on the field have always been admirable, it's his work away from the pitch that's made him a cult hero at Anfield.

Sakho has thrown himself into community projects in Liverpool, where his list of good deeds includes volunteering for a homeless charity in the city, where he helped to decorate houses for those in need.
