Over the last few years, Floyd Mayweather has placed dozens (and at this point, probably hundreds) of extremely large wagers on a wide range of sporting events and let us all know about it by posting his winning tickets on Instagram. But in March, Mayweather revealed that he wanted to quit gambling on sports so that he could focus on buying a piece of an NBA team sometime in the near future. "You guys know I like to bet on sports," he said. "But I’m looking forward to stepping back from betting on sports now. I’m looking forward to probably getting into ownership of an NBA team.”
He seemed to stay true to his word, too. It's actually been more than a year since he bragged about winning more than $500,000 in four days on NBA games and boxing matches, which is the last time he posted about betting on sports on social media. He randomly decided to end that streak late Thursday night, though, when, for whatever reason, Mayweather posted a betting slip from last Saturday night showing that he had wagered $170,000 on the Warriors to beat the Thunder in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Forget the fact that Game 1 of the 2016 NBA Finals was on. Mayweather was still talking about a game played almost a week prior since it netted him a $221,000 profit:
Then, to bring us all up to speed on his most recent bet, Mayweather boasted about picking up an additional $63,636.36 on Thursday night by taking the Warriors to lead by more than three points at the end of the first half of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Warriors were leading 52-43, so once again, Mayweather won his bet:
That brings his grand total over the last week to...$284,636.36. We should point out that Mayweather didn't post a betting slip for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, which means he either sat that game out (unlikely) or *gasp* lost. But even if he did take an L, he's probably been profitable when it comes to betting on recent NBA games.
It's good to know that, even when you're phenomenally wealthy (Mayweather's net worth sits somewhere between $400 and $650 million and he claims to make $1 million per month in retirement), you can still get your rocks off by betting on sports. Remember that when you officially join the nine-figure club.
