Is Cuba Gooding Jr. a Bigger Bandwagon Sports Fan Than Drake?

Cuba Gooding Jr. might be a bigger bandwagon sports fan than Drake after what he pulled during the Stanley Cup Final.

On Sunday night, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup with a 3-1 victory against the Sharks, and apparently, no one was happier about it than…Cuba Gooding Jr.?!

Following Game 6 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals, the actor was spotted singing “We Are The Champions”—while recording himself with his cell phone—inside of the Penguins’ locker room:

And while he’s certainly not the first celebrity to work his way into a locker room (or ahem, try to work his way into a locker room) during a celebration, this was kind of weird because, just a few hours earlier, Gooding Jr. seemed to reveal that he was cheering for the Sharks to win the Cup. He did a TV interview with NBC’s Jeremy Roenick about the Sharks before Game 6, and he was so excited about the game that he accidentally cursed during the live segment:

So what gives? Why is Gooding Jr. making Drake—the sports bandwagoner of all sports bandwagoners—look like the most loyal sports fan in the world right now?

That's the question that more than a few people asked on Twitter on Sunday night and Monday morning after seeing Gooding Jr. in the Penguins’ locker room. Here are just a few of the reactions to it:

Maybe Gooding Jr. is friends with one of the players on the Penguins. Or maybe he just likes free champagne (he looks like a guy who might like free champagne, no?). Or maybe he just likes to act a fool at NHL events:

Or maybe—gasp—he just likes hockey and doesn’t care who wins. We should point out that he’s also been identified as a Kings fan before and that he was at a Stars/Jets game in February. And who can forget this amazing moment from a 2014 Red Wings/Blackhawks preseason game?

Oh, and we should also point out that Gooding Jr. apparently skates with Sharks player Brent Burns in the offseason (uhhh, WTF?!), which might explain his seemingly loose San Jose affiliation:

But whatever the case, it was still strange to see him playing both sides during the Stanley Cup Finals. And since Drake would most definitely get dragged for doing something like this, we couldn't let Gooding Jr. slide without mentioning it.

We’ve reached out to the Penguins to try and get some sort of explanation for why Gooding Jr. ended up celebrating with the Penguins, and we will let you know what we hear back.
