With hours to go until polling stations open, those campaigning to remain in the EU have just got the official backing of an unexpected voice – John Barnes.

After ex-England captain David Beckham made headlines yesterday by revealing he'll be voting to remain in an Instagram post yesterday, Vote Leave campaigner Michael Gove appeared on Sky News to say that other retired England players – like Sol Campbell and John Barnes – actually want their country to leave the European Union.

While Sol Campbell's stance came as no surprise, John Barnes was so outraged that his name had been attached to the Leave campaign that he walked into the Sky News office in Johannesberg and appeared on TV to defend himself:

"I gave an interview stating that for English football it would be better off being out of the EU because, of course, we couldn't get all of these European players coming in as easily, so it would be better for English footballers...that's a very selfish view of me looking at English football.

Barnes says Britain has a "moral responsbility" to help solve the migration crisis.

Barnes continued to tear through the arguments for Vote Leave and says Britain's history shows it has a responsibility to work with Europe to solve the migration crisis:

"When we look at the migration crisis in the world, which we helped to create in the West, why are we now absolving ourselves of responsibility by saying to Europe: 'we're not concerned with this, this is your problem'.

Is he ever gets tired of punditry, a career in politics might not be all that bad.
