TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People feature is a comprehensive who’s who of modern life. This year's installment is a glimpse into society in 2016. Scan the list and you’ll see names ranging from Barack Obama (for the 11th time) and Justin Trudeau to Aziz Ansari and Kendrick Lamar.

This year, eight athletes made the cut: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Stephen Curry, Usain Bolt, Ronda Rousey, Jordan Spieth, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton, tennis' Sania Mirza, and fencing's Ibtihaj Muhammad.

The features are all written by prominent figures, many of whom made the list themselves. Director Peter Berg, known for his work on Friday Night Lights and Lone Survivor, had high praise for The Rock.

“He has proved to be that rare combination of likable, creative and talented – but he’s also a solid businessman,” Berg wrote. “My master plan: Dwayne becomes the governor of Florida in eight years and the President in 12, and he’s the best President we’ve had since Ronald Reagan.”

Dancer Misty Copeland wrote that she is “in awe” when she watches Curry play and compared his abilities to those of a ballet dancer.

“He combines a never-before-seen skill set with the panache and flair of a great performance artist,” Copeland wrote. “These skills and an amazing sense of the moment allow him to fearlessly lead his record-setting team by simultaneously fitting in and standing out, allowing his teammates to thrive and willing them to victory time and again.”

You can check out the full list here. A few early candidates for next year: Conor McGregor, Bryce Harper, and Cam Newton.
