Who knew lacrosse was so vicious?!

During a recent game between the University of Oregon and the University of Detroit Mercy, an Oregon player—identified as Jackie Moccia by Deadspin—got away with hitting an opponent with her stick not once, not twice, but three times. In the clip above, you can clearly see her swing her stick at Lexie Kinmond, but somehow, the referees managed to miss all three shots and no penalty was called on any of the plays.

It sounds like Moccia was eventually handed a one-game suspension, but Deadspin got their hands on a statement from Detroit Mercy head coach Laura Maness that indicates she is still upset with what happened and doesn't feel as though the punishment fits the crime. It’s why the Detroit Mercy team decided to put the video, which has now gone viral, on social media. Here’s the statement Maness made:

The refs missed all of these cheap shots as they happened off ball, but early in the game she was issued a yellow card for another hard foul. Her behavior escalated throughout the game. Oregon athletic department, the Mountain Pacific Sports Conference, and the Officiating assignor have all had access to the video footage afterwards as we wanted to bring them in the loop of what had happened, and we were seeking discipline action to be taken. At no point did anyone involve ask me about the well being of my student athlete. When she got off with a 1 game suspension for what was 3 separate ejectable offenses we decided it would be best to share the video on social media to bring to light the importance of safe play, and to try to preserve the integrity of the game that we love.

Check out the clip to see why she's so upset.
