No one was expecting Washington to accomplish much this season. Now they're the NFC East champions thanks to Kirk Cousins' leadership under center. If you were holding out any hope (and why would you?), this means that the Robert Griffin III era is dead. He tragically went from Offensive Rookie of the Year to irrelevant.
Center Kory Lichtensteiger isn't that sympathetic, though. A Washington Post article featured him praising Cousins while throwing a very slight jab at his former starting quarterback.
“We’re playoff dancing because of him," Lichtensteiger said. "[At the time of the decision], it was good to see that there’s repercussions and rewards; repercussions for not playing well and rewards for doing the right thing: preparing, performing in practice and the preseason. It was just good to know that you get rewarded for hard work and performing.”
He isn't wrong; RG3's rookie season was his peak. However, his fall off isn't entirely his fault. The Redskins have long moved on from head coach Mike Shanahan, but RG3's mishandling at his hands—especially with that knee injury—is a lasting consequence.
