The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly reached an agreementto make Kansas City's offensive coordinator Doug Pederson their next head coach. The only thing standing in the way is Kansas City, who will have to finish their freakin' season before it can become official.

The spot as Philadelphia's top...I don't know...eagle will be the 47-year-old Pederson's first head coaching job above high school, and was reportedly reached after ex-Giants coach Tom Coughlin removed his name from consideration.

Pederson served as a backup quarterback in the NFL for 12 years, from 1993 to 2004. Over the past three seasons he's helped call the plays (Andy Reid has the final say) for the Chiefs who've routinely been in the top half of the league in points scored despite being in the lower half of total offense. He also has Philly roots as he previously played quarterback for the Eagles (going 2-7 as a starter!) in 1999, serving as a mentor to Donovan McNabb, before coming back as the QBs coach in 2011 and 2012. This is key as the organization was reportedly interested because of his ties to Andy Reid.

When Pederson does take the sidelines for the Eagles next fall he'll be the first ex-player to lead the team in over 30 years. Not sure if that's important. But he should know what to expect.
