Just like every other club on the planet, Manchester City want to add Lionel Messi to their ranks. Unlike most others though, they actually have the financial firepower to make the move happen.

According to reports from Spanish newspaper Sport, the Premier League giants are ready to offer Messi a mammoth wage packet to tempt him into leaving Barcelona.

City would reportedly be prepared to offer Messi an annual salary of £19.9 million, which is a huge jump from his current basic salary in Spain.

Messi is facing a tax evasion trial in Spain next year.

There have long been rumours that Messi's tax troubles could see him leave Spain. He and his father will face a trial for three counts of tax fraud totalling €4 million, that could see Messi face a 22-month prison sentence if found guilty.

Let's not forget the January transfer window is just around the corner, which usually means it's silly season when it comes to transfer rumours like this.
