If you’re not a fan of Skip Bayless and his sometimes ridiculous opinions, then you probably loved it when Jalen Roseexposed him during an episode of ESPN First Take back in April 2012. In the middle of a debate about Russell Westbrook of all people, Rose dropped a bombshell on Bayless by exposing him for being a crappy high school basketball player, even though Bayless had once compared himself to “Pistol” Pete Maravich. Rose went as far as to call Bayless “Water Pistol Pete” while calling him out for only averaging 1.4 points per game in high school and playing JV ball as a junior. You can watch the segment here:
Rose made an appearance on the latest SI Media Podcast with Richard Deitsch and, during their discussion, Deitsch asked Rose about the incident. Rose—who has not been back on First Take since it took place—said that he has since patched things up with Bayless, and he also admitted that he regrets handling the situation the way he did.
“KRS-One, one of my favorite rappers, he always said that he kept a diss record for everybody in the top ten in case somebody wanted to come at him,” he said. “In the debate world, what you’re trying to come up with is facts, stats, and figures that may be body blows, may be head shots, if you need them. Yes, that debate did become personal, and I regret that it became personal. In our banter, I did bring up some intel that I had done. I got some of it off Black Sports Online. I vetted it, and so when I was on the show and the debate became personal, I exposed the information that I had about his high school career. As I look back at it, I should have handled it different.”
