When Snoop Dogg’s son Cordell Broadusquit the UCLA football team back in August, a lot of people were surprised. Broadus was a highly-touted player coming out of high school and was expected to contribute to the Bruins team. But after reading the Instagram post that he put up last night, maybe we shouldn’t have been so surprised about him hanging up his cleats for good.

Yesterday was Snoop’s birthday. And while wishing his father the best on IG, Broadus also explained that the only reason he played football was to make his dad happy.

“I played football for my father because I thought that was the only way he would love me & be apart of my life,” he wrote. “It took me 12 years to realize he loves Cordell Broadus the person not Cordell Broadus the football player. The best day of my life was when I heard those exact words.”

Ah, now that explains it. Although, it is a little sad that it took him so long to realize that.
