Austin Rivers is a backup guard in the NBA who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, where his father Doc Rivers holds dual titles as president and head coach.

He can be serviceable in short stints off the bench, but with career averages of just seven points and 2.1 assists while shooting less than 40 percent from the field, Rivers can hardly be considered anywhere close to being one of the league's true stars.

That didn't stop him from taking to Twitter to proclaim his greatness this morning, a day after a ton of legitimate talent was on the court competing in a USA Basketball scrimmage at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Straight up better than a lot of those dudes playing last night.....
Have to prove that this year. M.o.a.M
MIP.....why not

Now, the second part of this message isn't so bad, because a goal of becoming the league's Most Improved Player is at least somewhat realistic. But the first part is just factually incorrect, any way you slice it.

We could list every single player who got minutes in last night's contest, but trust us -- Rivers doesn't have a case against any of them. Instead, let's take a look at how the folks on Twitter lit up his mentions following his posting of this poorly thought out remark.

@AustinRivers25 @Ballislife you may suck at basketball, but damn you funny Austin.

@AustinRivers25 dude you're fucking dreadful, like awful, absolute trash

— Mikey (@YCMMEI) August 14, 2015

Don't get my last tweet confused. EVERY player there last night was WELL deserved. As a competitor I just feel like I should be out there.

For what it's worth, Rivers did try to walk things back a little while later. But by then, the damage -- mainly to his mentions -- had already been done.
