This is kind of a long story, but since it ends in one professional baseball team subjecting another to hearing fart noises over the stadium loudspeakers during batting practice, it's probably worth your time.

At the beginning of the season, the Washington Nationals decided it would be a good idea to play chill tunes during their opponent's batting practice. Sarah McLachlan, Elton John and R.E.M. were some of the early choices used to try to gain some sort of a psychological advantage, but there was clearly an unintended consequence to employing this as a strategy.

There would be retaliation.

The worst of it came in Miami against the Marlins, where the Nationals originally received no music at all, before the auditory assault began in full force.

The Nationals expected something like this to happen eventually, although no one could have predicted this exact course of action. Still, the team was prepared with some musical equipment of its own.

The bar in this ridiculous war has certainly been raised. There's no telling where things may be headed next.
