Recently, there has been a lot of talk about Pete Rose possibly getting reinstated back into the game of baseball this year after getting banned from MLB way back in 1989. The thought has been that Rose served his time and deserved to be let back in. But an explosive new ESPN Outside the Lines report is probably going to make that impossible.

According to OTL, photocopied documents from a notebook belonging to former Rose associate Michael Bertolini that has been sealed from the public for the last 26 years indicate that Rose bet on baseball while he was still playing with the Reds. They also suggest that Rose had ties to the mob and placed all of his bets through them. Rose has been adamant about the fact that he did not place bets during his playing career and that he only started betting once he became a full-time manager. But OTL's report suggests otherwise and could be the final nail in Rose's MLB coffin.

You can read the full report here. Rose offered a statement to OTL through his lawyer, but he refused to reveal whether or not there was any truth to their report. Bertolini also refused to speak with OTL about the notebook. It'll be interesting to hear how MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred responds, especially since he's the one who has been willing to listen to Rose and his camp about the issue of reinstatement. Stay tuned.
