Brett Favre doesn't think Tom Brady cheated "by any stretch."

In the wake of Tom Brady's DeflateGate suspension, every NFL quarterback, past or present, who steps in front of a live mic has been asked about their opinion on it. Yesterday, A.J. Feeley accused Brady and the Patriots of using doctored footballs as far back as 2004, making light of a potential decade-plus of "cheating." Future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, in a recent interview with Fox News, gave a different take on Brady and DeflateGate.

Favre have any quarterback-specific insights into the story like Feeley did, but in his opinion, Brady isn't a cheater:

“I don’t think by any stretch, in my opinion, that Tom was cheating. It sounds crazy. Historically, there’s been stealing of signs — and that goes to baseball and football. Just whatever advantage you could get. Lester Hayes putting Stickum on his arms for the Raiders. Pine tar. It’s just endless, the advantages that players would try to get.

“I don’t know if Tom can honestly say he has completed more passes because of it. I think more than anything, it helped with the grip based on conditions. Not every game. And would other players do it? Sure, I have no reason to think otherwise.”

In Favre's mind, Brady's actions aren't an egregious example of cheating, but rather a game-by-game quest to gain one of the tiny, "endless" advantages that players look for within the scope of play. Sounds like a roundabout way of justifying the term, "it's not cheating unless you get caught." Watch Favre's full interview on Brady below.
