Charles Oakley used to be the backbone of the Knicks organization back in the 1990s. But in recent years, he hasn't been a big supporter of the team, mostly because the team's owner James Dolan hasn't been a big supporter of Oakley. But even still, it was kind of surprising to hear some of the things Oakley had to say about the Knicks earlier this week. Specifically, he revealed that he's not so sure Carmelo Anthony should be considered an NBA superstar anymore.

"Is he still a superstar or is he going to be a complimentary player?" Oakley asked on Tuesday night at an event in New York City. "You win [17] games, I don't know. He made the All-Star game. He played on the All-Star team, but he didn't play during the season."

Oakley was then reminded about the $100-plus million contract Carmelo signed last summer. But Oakley said that Carmelo's paycheck shouldn't determine his status within the league.

"I didn't give him the contract," he said. "He won a championship at Syracuse. What's the potential? They give a lot of people $100 million."

As we mentioned, Oakley's not on the best of terms with the Knicks right now. So it's not all that shocking to hear him questioning Carmelo. But do you think he has a point?
