Following a string of NCAA inquiries and investigations ranging from former center Fab Melo being declared ineligible because of an academic issue in 2012 to allegations that some players were still able to play even though they violated the school's drug policy, Syracuse University has issued a self-imposed postseason ban on the men's basketball team this year.

Earlier today, Syracuse's Chancellor Kent Syverud released a statement, saying, "The University has taken this matter seriously and worked with the NCAA for nearly eight years to investigate and address potential rules violations." Now, as result of the self-imposed postseason ban, the Orange will be ineligible for this year's NCAA Tournament, ACC Tournament and NIT.

In response to the ban, head coach Jim Boeheim said in a news release, "I am very disappointed that our basketball team will miss the opportunity to play in the postseason this year However, I supported this decision and I believe the University is doing the right thing by acknowledging that past mistakes occurred."
