It turns out that to find his next gig, Rex Ryan didn’t have to leave the AFC East, or even the state of New York.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are finalizing a deal to make Ryan their head coach, replacing the departed Doug Marrone:

The Jets fired Ryan along with General Manager John Idzik on Black Monday a couple weeks ago, and Ryan immediately became the hottest commodity on the coaching free agent market. He interviewed with Atlanta and San Francisco in addition to Buffalo, and you can’t help but wonder how much the opportunity to stick it to the Jets twice a season played into Ryan’s thought process when deciding his preferred destination.

He takes over a Buffalo team that had begun to blossom under Marrone, finishing 9-7 this season and narrowly missing out on a playoff spot. Like with his Jets teams, Ryan’s most important job will be finding a quarterback of the future in the wake of E.J. Manuel flopping and Kyle Orton retiring.

Could the Sanchize be heading back to Buffalo and beginning his revenge tour? We can only hope.

UPDATE: Rex is officially headed to Buffalo.
