Next stop, Ann Arbor?
The first domino in the Jim Harbaugh coaching sweepstakes has fallen, as the 49ers and their coach have mutually agreed to part ways. After leading San Francisco to three straight NFC title games and one Super Bowl, Harbaugh saw his team fall to 8-8 and miss the playoffs for the first time in his tenure.
With rumors raging that he would be heading back to coach his alma mater at the University Michigan, Harbaugh finished out the season with a whole lot of “no comments” when it came to questions about his job status. With the Michigan brass reportedly in the area already in order to meet with him, Harbaugh’s leaving the Niners was all a foregone conclusion.
Michigan has not exactly hidden its intentions, either:

They also may have already offered the coach a six-year, $48 million deal, one which some well-placed sources believe he has already accepted:
I just got off the phone with more sources tonight. It's done. Jim Harbaugh is coming to Michigan - and his friends are flying in Monday.

While Harbaugh’s decision to head back to Ann Arbor is yet to be made official, it certainly seems like we’re heading in that direction in the very near future.
