After Andrew Hawkins of the Cleveland Browns took the field today wearing a “Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford” t-shirt, the Cleveland Police Department quickly denounced his form of activism. In a statement to NewsNet5, Police Patrolman Union President Jeff Follmer said:

“It’s pretty pathetic when athletes think they know the law. They should stick to what the know best on the field. The Cleveland Police protect and serve the Browns stadium and the Browns organization owes us an apology.”

The “pretty pathetic” comment is undoubtedly not going to play well with Hawkins, or many of the athletes across the sports landscape who have been using their position to speak out against police violence. Undoubtedly, this is not over.
