Yesterday morning, while speaking with the hosts of WJMH 102 Jamz (a North Carolina radio station), former UNC football player Tydreke Powell revealed some scandalous details about the numerous cases of academic fraud currently weighing against the university. Powell, who said he played under former Tar Heels head coach Butch Davis from 2007 to 2011, claimed that "everybody knew" about the dishonest practices, and even went so far as to say that men's basketball coach Roy Williams was aware of what was taking place, calling him "a snake." To date, Williams has denied any involvement with the scandal

Powell didn't stop there, either. Near the beginning of the interview, he reveals that Butch Davis once openly told Powell and his teammates that, "If y'all came here for an education, you should have gone to Harvard." Powell characterized the remark as deeply discouraging. "When somebody say that, man," he s, "what [are] we supposed to do?"

Powell said that he earned his degree in communications, though he also admitted to taking the paper classes offered by the Department of African and Afro-American Studies. He also recalled details about players intentionally failing a sort of aptitude test so that they would have access to special tutors and note-takers for classes.

In closing, Powell laid into the basketball program.

"One thing about Carolina, man," he said. "If you ain't got a class with a basketball player, you better go find one. If you got one with 'em, you know it's an A." While discussing a specific basketball player who he shared a class with (the name is bleeped out), Powell said, "He didn't come to class at all ... he came to take a test and then he didn't even take it. It was this girl in front of us that took his test, then she gave it to him."

The NCAA is still making a decision on the penalties that UNC will be slapped with for these charges, and Powell's interview could make those final decisions that much tougher on Roy Williams and the Tar Heels. You can listen to it in full, here.
