After being suspended for the rest of the year and having it look very likely that his appeal will be denied, Adrian Peterson is probably done for the rest of the 2014 season. He has said that it wouldn’t be a big surprise if he spent 2015 and beyond with a team other than the Vikings, given the PR nightmare his child abuse scandal was for the team.

As it turns out, Peterson may be more welcome in Minnesota than initially thought.

NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport reports that the Vikings coaching staff, players, and many in the front office want Peterson back next season, although according to Adam Schefter the team’s general counsel Kevin Warren does not want him to return under any circumstances.

Peterson will not be eligible for reinstatement until April, so we’ve got quite a ways to go before any serious decisions need to be made. It’s not hard to see why the Vikings would want AP back; he’s their all-time leading rusher and still one of the best running backs in the NFL, and if the commissioner deems him OK to play then they’d rather have him on their team than going against them.
