After suffering a 10th minute head injury in the above collision with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been hospitalized “as a precaution,” according to NBC Sports’ halftime show.

Despite looking like he may have been rendered totally unconscious, Courtois stayed in the game for about 15 minutes until being substituted for Petr Cech in the 24th minute. It’s yet another case of irresponsible concussion management in soccer, a problem that came to the forefront during the World Cup and has continued into the Premier League season.

Whether Courtois is out for an extended period of time remains to be seen, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a better backup in world football than Cech. If theres any dropoff between the sticks for undefeated Chelsea, it should be minimal.
