Nobody can beat the Kansas City Royals. Literally, America's current underdog obsession finished off a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday with a 2-1 victory, giving K.C. an 8-0 2014 postseason record heading into the World Series.

Jason Vargas pitched 5.1 innings of one-run ball, the ever-steady Royals bullpen threw 3.2 shutout innings, and Eric Hosmer poked in two more runs (one earned, one unearned) in the first inning, as the epic journey continued for the wild card team. And, of course, more stellar defense from Mike Moustakas, Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, and the rest of the team helped shut down an Orioles team that scored 705 runs during the regular season, but only managed two in the final two ALCS games in Missouri.

With a .533 series average, Cain deservedly took home the ALCS MVP. After the AL won the All-Star game, the Royals will hold home field advantage in the championship, starting the series with a home game. Though, that might not matter much if the St. Louis Cardinals are able to take out the San Francisco Giants, setting up the perfectly ultimate rematch. The Royals haven't been in the playoffs since 1985, when they beat the Cardinals in a controversial seven-game series. Who doesn't want to see a Missouri cross-state battle?
