Cardinals Beat Dodgers, 10-9, in What Was Supposed to Be a Pitchers' Duel

Cardinals came out on top to beat the Dodgers in what turned out to be a thriller.

Yes, the Cardinals and Dodgers NLDS game ended with a score of 10-9. And yes, Clayton Kershaw and Adam Wainwright—two of baseball's finest—did pitch. MLB postseason is crazy like that. Unfortunately for the Dodgers and Magic Johnson, it was the Cardinals who came out on top with the 10 runs.

One of the shocks of the night is that earned run column: Wainwright allowed six, while Kershaw allowed eight. To put this in perspective, the two totaled those respective numbers for the whole of September.

Perhaps even more shocking is that the Cardinals came back against Kershaw. St. Louis was down 6-1 before busting the Dodgers open with an eight-run seventh inning.

It fittingly came down to the final inning. A. J. Ellis hit a single to cause some grimaces, while Andre Ethier's bomb to left field was good for a double. Dee Gordon's RBI ground out pushed the game to 10-9 and set the stage for a Yasiel Puig vs. Trevor Rosenthal showdown.

Puig may have still been riled up after getting hit with a pitch earlier in the game, almost leading to a brawl. So were the leftover feelings enough to make Puig the game's hero? NO! Rosenthal strikes him out. Cardinals win. "Country Grammar" starts blaring in a club somewhere in St. Louis.
