Football is temporary. Your health is forever. During the second game of the 2013 season against BYU, Texas Longhorns quarterback David Ash suffered a concussion which sidelined him for the remainder of the contest. After missing the following game, Ash returned in the fourth game of the season where, after a strong first half showing versus Kansas State, he suffered another concussion. This time, though, the symptoms from the head injury were much worse and the team decided it would be best to sit him out for the rest of the year.

For months, Ash continued to deal with the symptoms stemming from his string of concussions but when the 2014 season came rolling around, he was ready to give it a go. Unfortunately, in the season opener against North Texas, David suffered yet another concussion. Even though they gave their starting QB a week to recover, it became clear that Ash, who "hasn't been able to make it through a game without either suffering another concussion or at least having his symptoms return," needed to listen to his family's wishes and quit the game of football.

Today, Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong announced that Ash is indeed calling it a career. Over the course of his four-year career, Ash played in 30 games where he racked up 4,728 passing yards with 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
